Welcome to the FIRSTWA Forums!

This forum is where FIRST participants, particularly new teams, can ask questions and find help for their problems when building and programming their robots. There are areas for FRC, FTC, and FLL teams alike.

The FRC 'Ask a Veteran' forum will provide the content for a GoToWebinars scheduled by veteran teams throughout the build season. After a certain number of unanswered questions posted here (most likely about 5), a Webinar answering them will be setup soon thereafter.

The management of the forums is provided by the Titan Robotics Club. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email us here: web [at] titanrobotics.net. Thanks!

Thanks for your interest in our Code Tracker system! Getting set up is pretty easy; here's what you need to do:

  1. Email Paul (ceo [at] titanrobotics.net): We need some information before we can set up a Subverison/Trac system for you. In your request, please include the following things, and we'll let you know as soon as your Subversion repository and Trac environment have been created.
    1. Contact Name and Email: Please include a name and email address which we can contact if necessary. You most likely won't see much traffic, but we'll use it if there's important information which you need to know.
    2. Team Number: This will become part of the access URL for your Subversion repository and your Trac issue tracker panel.
    3. Usernames and Passwords
      I'll need a list of the usernames and passwords which the programmers of your team will use to submit code to the Subversion repository and make changes to the Trac bugtracker. I will need all passwords in clear-text to enter them into the system for you, so don't use favorite passwords for this.

      Usernames must follow this pattern: {team number}{name}. This will help teams identify their users and prevent problems with accessing the system. For example, my username might be 492paul.

      The account will come with a default administrator username and password for use with Trac, similar to 492admin492pass (your team number will replace 492). This will let you start changing advanced Trac settings immediately. If you wish to change the password, let me know (you can always re-assign admin privileges to another user in the Trac admin panel if that's more convenient).

      Please try to include as many people as possible in your list of usernames and passwords. This will make my life easier. However, you are always welcome to ask for more usernames and passwords to be added as necessary.
  2. How to Access your Repository/Bugtracker:

Once the repository is set up, you're good to go! The URLs for your repository and environment follow this pattern:

http://bombadier.homeftp.net/teams/{type of resource}/{team number}

Types:
Subversion = svn
Trac = trac

For example, you could access a Subversion repository at http://bombadier.homeftp.net/teams/svn/492, and a Trac issue tracker at http://bombadier.homeftp.net/teams/trac/492.

  1. Client Software

Trac: You will not need any extra software; your web browser is fine.
Subversion: You can download code from a Subversion repository with your web broswer, but you need a special client to commit changes and use advanced features. Here are some of my recommendations:

Windows: TortoiseSVN: http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/
OS X: SvnX: http://www.lachoseinteractive.net/en/community/subversion/svnx/features/?sid=4ad517caaf39d2615f26b01551838360
Linux: The original Subversion package. Do a quick google search to find installation details for your particular distribution.

You're all set! For some more information about how to use Subversion and Trac, see the post "How to Use Trac/Svn". Have fun!
