Welcome to the FIRSTWA Forums!

This forum is where FIRST participants, particularly new teams, can ask questions and find help for their problems when building and programming their robots. There are areas for FRC, FTC, and FLL teams alike.

The FRC 'Ask a Veteran' forum will provide the content for a GoToWebinars scheduled by veteran teams throughout the build season. After a certain number of unanswered questions posted here (most likely about 5), a Webinar answering them will be setup soon thereafter.

The management of the forums is provided by the Titan Robotics Club. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email us here: web [at] titanrobotics.net. Thanks!

Inspections

Somewhere along the line, I got the impression that inspectors will open and our crate and inspect the robot after it arrives at the competition facility.  Listening to the teleconference yesterday, I go the impression that the crate will not be opened until we are there.  This can make a slight difference in the way we pack our robot, being there to explain as opposed to forcing the inspectors to interpret our design and intent.  Please clarify.

Re: Inspections

The inspectors will not open your crate. When you get to the competition Thursday morning, you will find an empty pit (well there's a table) except for your crate. It's up to your team to unpack and arrange everything how they want it, including your robot. At some point during the course of Thursday (the earlier the better, usually), you can take your robot over to the inspection station to be weighed, and measured for dimensions. Once these tests have been passed, an inspector will accompany you to your pit and examine things like electrical correctness/safety, pinch points, etc.

Nobody should ever need to touch your robot without your permission, barring safety reasons of course.

For more information on the goings-on at the competition, refer to Section 3 of the game manual, "At the Events."

Good luck

Re: Inspections

You should also remember that once your crate is opened the weight can not be challenged. If you crate was over the limit, the warehouse will put a label on it (pink, i think) that means you will be charged for overweight. If you open it, you can not challenge, and will be forced to pay.

Goo luck!
