Welcome to the FIRSTWA Forums!

This forum is where FIRST participants, particularly new teams, can ask questions and find help for their problems when building and programming their robots. There are areas for FRC, FTC, and FLL teams alike.

The FRC 'Ask a Veteran' forum will provide the content for a GoToWebinars scheduled by veteran teams throughout the build season. After a certain number of unanswered questions posted here (most likely about 5), a Webinar answering them will be setup soon thereafter.

The management of the forums is provided by the Titan Robotics Club. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email us here: web [at] titanrobotics.net. Thanks!

Rookie workshop and scrimmage

To all registered teams: (and anyone else who might like to come!!!)
Thank you for signing up (or not) to participate in the scrimmage at Aviation High School
hosted by Skunkworks Robotics! It will be a lot of fun to reunite many of the
teams from Seattle, and introduce them to this year's rookie teams. Before we
start, however, here are some key items to prepare for the event:

We will be playing Lunacy, but there will be a few adjustments to the
conditions. We will be playing the game on carpet instead of regolith. There
will be no weight or size requirements, so teams that have changed their robots
to test different designs will still be able to play. We do ask, however, that
these teams to declare the modifications they have made.

WE NEED EVERYONE TO BRING MOONROCKS!!!! We don't have enough.
Please contact us if you have extra orbit balls from last year, and let us know
how many you have.

We could also use a few trailers... we only have 2 good ones or maybe 3 so we
could use 4 more...

In addition to Lunacy, we may be trying a few other variations of the game:

Cat and mouse: Similar to Lunacy, only one team per alliance has a trailer, and
the two other robots defend it while trying to score in the other team's
trailer.

Tug-o'-War: Two robots. One test of strength.

We would like to have the rookies participating in the workshop attend the
scrimmage, and get a chance to control the robots and play the game to see what
the regional competitions are like. Rookies, don't be afraid to introduce
yourselves to veteran teams! Veterans, please let the rookies play with your
robots so they can experience the heat of battle!

What to bring: Teams should provide their own safety glasses, and bring extras
if possible. We'd like to set up a table display for design features, so if
you have something unique from years past that you'd like to show off, let us
know and we will make space for it! Also, if you would like to bring any form of
media equipment, feel free!

We would also like to have a demonstration of drive systems and scoring
mechanisms. We'd like to use several robots for each drive system to
demonstrate what they do and the advantages of each, so the rookies start
getting ideas for design features. We would appreciate it if all of the teams
could send us their team number, robot name, drive base type, and scoring
mechanism, so that we can put together a demonstration for the rookies.

The doors open at 9:00 after which people are welcome to come in and prepare for
the day. At this time you should order lunch for your team. The way food is
working is that you will come in early and buy a ticket, and this ticket will be
redeemed during lunch. Cheese and pepperoni will be the only available pizzas.
Soda and candy will also be available for sale throughout the day at the pizza
pre-order table. The welcome and introductions begin at 9:45, and the classes
begin at 10. The scrimmage will begin at 11:30, and rookie teams are welcome to
come watch whenever they are available (like during lunch!) We should also have
several displays of different awards and equipment for the rookie teams to take
a look at.
We have a few things that we will need help with in order to make the event run
smoothly. Please let us know if you can help in the following areas:
- Helping to organize teams getting on and off the field
- Field Reset, and keeping score
- Managing Match Schedule
- We need one team to stay after to scrimmage to help take down the field (est.
time: 1 hour)
Thank you for signing up to come to this event. See you on Saturday!
